Keeping Vacant Rental Property Safe

If you own a rental property that is currently vacant, the safety of the property should be high concern for you. Now ideally your hope is that the rental property will not be vacant for long, however if you are unable to find a renter for your property for 2-3 months, you want to make sure your property is not susceptible to being broken into.

Below are some options to consider taking for your vacant rental property to ensure it is safe:

  • Install security system: Installing a security system does not cost very much and is probably the safest way to ensure your vacant rental home does not get broken into.
  • Have a neighbor watch the house: Asking a neighbor to watch the house is something they likely will do for you. Even paying them $50 a month to watch it for you will be worth it.
  • Have a family member live in the house temporarily: Having a family member live in your rental home while trying to find tenants is a great way to ensure the house will be taken care of.
